College Research 101: Thinking Beyond Size and Location (Thursday AM)

  • Coalescence Coffee 226 West 24th Street Norfolk, VA, 23517 United States (map)

When it comes to colleges, there’s a lot of factors to consider beyond just size and location. Will access to professors help you learn? Does a competitive academic environment motivate you to work harder or does it stress you? How do you feel about sororities and fraternities on campus? Always imagined attending a college with big-time sports? And once you’ve thought about factors like these…how do you get started researching it all?

In this workshop, students will:

  • learn about a range of academic, social, and cultural characteristics of colleges

  • complete a guided activity to identify individual preferences

  • reflect on factors that are important (and not) for them personally

  • discuss WHAT to research and HOW to research

Students will be able to use all research tools after the workshop, too!

This workshop is for students only and is designed for rising juniors and rising seniors. Students must bring a laptop.
